One of the many fun things to do on Anna Maria Island is to rent a bicycle and tour this cute little beach town on a bike! There are basically no Anna Maria Island Bike Paths so a group of residents are working to design an island wide bike path that will keep riders safe. Portions of Anna Maria Island have narrow shoulders on the main roads where people ride bikes next to traffic. Other areas like Gulf Drive in the City of Anna Maria Island don’t even have that or Anna Maria Island bike paths.
Not having Anna Maria Island bike paths keeps the tourists away from some of the more popular tourist attractions. Many people like to explore by bike but there are no bike lanes here and in the future our island could have an island wide bike path connecting all three island cities.
It would be much better for beach traffic too if more people were using Anna Maria island bike paths. Think of less cars and less traffic! The City of Anna Maria and the City of Holmes Beach have money allocated to set up signage, markers and to make maps of safe riding areas. The portion of the project will be completed before 2017. The bike group will be applying for grant funding and meeting with commissioners to further the plan of the desired Anna Maria Island bike paths. Need a place to rent a bike? Go to bike rentals.
