Paddleboarding in the Gulf of Mexico
Paddleboarding in the Gulf of Mexico

Paddleboarding has become quite the phenomenon in recent years. The sport has really taken off in popularity. It’s easy to see why the activity is such a draw for many people. It has a relatively quick learning curve. Rent a board, try to stand up, fall off and repeat several times until you relax and find your balance. People quickly realize it isn’t that scary falling off and landing in the warm, salty Gulf of Mexico waters. Once you get the hang of standing up on the water and find your balance, you will find that paddleboarding can be a fun and different way to travel around Anna Maria Island (AMI). This is a great way to take in the many sites and natural beauty the Island has to offer.

If it is a relatively calm day with no wind or waves paddleboarding in the Gulf of Mexico can be awesome fun. In the warm crystal clear waters right off shore there are many wondrous sites to be seen. Paddlers often encounter big fish, stingrays, playful dolphins and even if they are lucky small sharks!

There are hidden sandbars to be discovered. It can be thrilling to paddle out to a sandbar and stand in ankle deep water gazing back at the white sand on the beach. Avid paddlers can even pack a light lunch or snack and hang out on their boards and have a picnic on the water. Or, if that seems like too much trouble why not paddle to one of the many restaurants on or near the waters of the Island?
